The Moog Theremini is a simplified, yet more powerful version of one of the oldest electronic instruments, the Theremin. It responds to the proximity of the player, changing pitch and volume depending on how far you are from the antennas.
The Theremini also has extra features like a built-in speaker, selectable instruments, and pitch correction. It retails for £366 (Thomann: 12/02/26).
Pros
The Theremini is easy to get started with, and the built-in speaker allows immediate use. Pitch correction allows playing in a specific scale, and can be fine-tuned to a user’s range of motion. It’s easy to set up and can be attached to a stand for hands-free use.
Cons
Not having any tactile feedback, it can require fine motor control to play expressively. There are menu controls (dials/buttons) that could be difficult to use.
Quick Start Guide
The vertical antenna should be clipped to the underside of the device. Remove it and screw into the top.
Plug in the power adaptor and attach an external speaker (if you need one).
